VANCOUVER – Indo-Canadian businessman David Sidoo was honoured in London, England this past week for his philanthropy work in England by the Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and UK House of Lords Minister Baroness Sandip Verma with the Global Punjabi Excellence Award.
Sidoo has been a big supporter with Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey of the Old Vic theatre in and Sidoo has been a longstanding advocate of his friend former US President Bill Clinton’s initiative in fighting world poverty.
Although Sidoo could not be there in person to accept the award in London, his friend the Attorney General of England, Dominc Grieve accepted the honour on his behalf.
“I am very humbled by this honour, and am just a simple guy who grew up in New West. I was fortunate enough to be able to play football in the CFL and then launch into a business career,” Sidoo told the LINK.
“At that time when I was first starting off in business my wife Manjy and I decided if we were ever able to be in a position to give to back to the community and make a difference we would.
“We have some excellent partners that we have teamed up with over the years from Frank Giustra and former US president Bill Clinton with the Clinton Giustra Initiative to fight world poverty, to NBA basketball player Steve Nash working with under-served children in the east side, former BC Lion Bobby Singh with the Down Set Hut football program, to the Surrey RCMP with their It’s a Girl Thing Program that works with female Indo-Canadian teenagers. These are some great programs and people that we have successfully partnered with to make a difference, and that difference is slowly but surely occurring. These awards and honours are always very much appreciated by me and my family but the true honour I get is when I run into a child that was a part of one of our programs and you can see with your own eyes the difference and success that program has made in the life of that child.”
