VANCOUVER – An Indo-Canadian scientist is among the recipients of the much hyped Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals.
Dr. Arvind Gupta, the CEO & Scientific Director of Mitacs and a professor of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia, received the medal from federal minister Ed Fast at a Vancouver medal presentation.
From 2010 to 2011, Dr. Gupta sat on the six-member Research & Development Review Expert Panel struck by the Government of Canada to conduct a comprehensive review of all existing federal support for business R&D.
Prior to joining Mitacs, he helped to found the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery.
Gupta was among the 15 Canadians presented medals at a ceremony at the Liu Institute for Global Issues at the University of British Columbia.
“On this occasion, it gives me great pleasure to honour the achievements of outstanding citizens who have dedicated themselves in service to their peers, their community and to their country,” said Fast. “These remarkable Canadians are further strengthening our country through their steadfast commitment to deepening Canada’s relationships throughout the Asia-Pacific region.”
