Richmond RCMP Constable Inderpal Bal, who was convicted of assault, was given suspended sentence.

RICHMOND – An Indo-Canadian RCMP Constable from Richmond convicted of assault had walked out of court in Richmond Thursday with no jail time.

Originally charged with assault causing bodily harm, Constable Inderpal Bal has been given a suspended sentence and placed on six months probation for an incident after an arrest last January. He’s also been ordered to pay a victim surcharge.

Bal’s conduct was questioned by other officers at the scene of an arrest made in January of last year after which the victim needed medical care.

A formal charge was laid in July after Surrey RCMP took over the investigation.

The person arrested had to be taken to hospital but the RCMP never released details.

An internal code of conduct investigation was launched into Bal’s conduct. No details have been released on that, either.
