Fiji Police Tracking Fijian Taliban

SUVA – The Fiji Police Force has sought the assistance of overseas intelligence agencies to track suspected Fijian militants training with the Taliban.

Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the force received reports alleging up to three Fijians were recently recruited by the Taliban.

Insp Sokomuri said the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua directed a thorough investigation that was being assisted by the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) .

“We have received the report through our sources. We are investigating through our channels overseas,” he said.

Speaking to The Fiji Times from Islamabad in Pakistan yesterday, the director administration and research of Federal Administered Tribal Areas Research Centre (FATA) Mansur Khan Mehsud confirmed that they were aware some Fijians were recruited by the Taliban recently.
