US Sikh Council To Hire PR Firm To Spread Awareness Of Sikhism

CHANDIGARH – The Sikh Councilon Religion and Education (SCORE),which consists of prominent members ofthe community in the USA, is in talks witha renowned public relations (PR) firm,AKPD, to create awareness about Sikhismthere.US-based social activist and SCOREchairman Rajwant Singh said the PR agencyhad handled the election campaign ofUS President Barack Obama. He said themove was aimed at preventing hate crimeagainst Sikhs in America. “Even now, twothirdof Americans can’t make out the differencebetween Sikhs and Muslims. Theidea is to launch an effective campaign,”he added. He also felt that the SGPC andDSGPC should play a proactive role in thisregard.Rajwant, who is visiting India fromWashington DC, said he was taking thehelp of teachings of the seventhSikh master, Guru Har Rai, tosensitise Punjabis, especially Sikhs,about ecological issues. His organisationhad declared March 14 (theenthronement day of Guru HarRai) as the Sikh Environment Day.He has been working on a projectwhich aims at making Amritsarand Nanded Sahib eco-friendlyand green cities. He is roping inresidents, besides religious andeducation institutes of the two citiesfor the project. He said boththe cities had been brought undera global organisation, GreenPilgrimage Network, which wasfounded in Italy in 2011. He theywould also observe a special day,“Amritsar Foundation Day”, onJuly 6.
