Indo-Canadian Soccer Phenom Gets US Scholarship

TORONTO – Among proud family,friends and classmates in attendance, 17year old Rajvir Singh Kahlon formallyannounced his acceptance to theUniversity of Pittsburgh on a soccerscholarship last week at the 2014 NCAANational Signing Day.National Signing Day is the first day thata high school Graduate can sign a bindingNational Letter of Intent (NLI) forall college sports with a school that is amember of the United States NationalCollegiate Athletic Association(NCAA).The University of Pittsburgh Men’sSoccer team competes in Division 1(D1) team in the Atlantic CoastConference (ACC). Division 1 is thehighest level of collegiate sports sanctionedunder the NCAA, and the ACC isknown as the most competitive andhardest conference in Division 1. Thefinal four teams of the 2013 Men’s soccerfinal were from the ACC.John Stieva, Principal of White OaksSecondary School where Rajvir attends,hosted the National Signing day for the17 year old soccer player where bothRajvir and Stieva signed the NationalLetter of Intent, formally announcinghis commitment to the University ofPittsburgh Men’s Soccer team to excitedsupporters and well-wishers.“Its really great to see Raj excelling atwhat he really loves” said John Stieva.Rajvir’s father, Gurmit Singh Kahlon,while beaming with pride said “We haveseen him work so hard since he was 3years old. It’s an amazing feeling for ourentire family, especially to go on a scholarshipand that too such a well ranking`University in both sports and academics”. Last year, Rajvir was selected asone of the Top 50 Players in the2013 Keele Cup InternationalTournament in England and hasbeen invited to train and trail atseveral distinguished soccerclubs such as West Ham (UK)and Dinamo Zagra (Croatia).Beyond his numerous soccerdistinctions, Rajvir is also completinghis last year in theInternational Baccalaureate (IB)program at White OaksSecondary, where he is StudentCouncil President, MVP of theschool soccer team as well as amember of the basketball andfootball teams.Rajvir is currently a member ofthe Toronto Lynx U20 teamand is expected to commencehis pre-season at the Universityof Pittsburgh in August.
