“For me, the music video is a mix of old style Bollywood and the new-Gen Sexy Back,” said Drive Me Crazy video director R. Paul Dhillon, the director of popular films The Bhangra Generation for OMNI Television and Sweet Amerika, a 9/11 drama starring Bollywood veteran Gulshan Grover, which was released in 2008-09. “Sid is a special artist for me. I’ve directed music videos of Jazzy B., mainstream rappers and many other singers but Sid’s got that special thing in an artist that usually brings out the best creative juices in me.” Of course, the Sexy Back is reference to the hit Justin Timberlake track, which Dhillon says is one of his favorite tracks of all time.

VANCOUVER – Vancouver-based rapper-singer Sid Bhullar, who made waves last year with his groundbreaking track Won’t Stop, an anthem about anti-bullying that received much airplay and recognition in Canada and abroad, is back with a fresh new track Drive Me Crazy, which was released on itunes in December but the music video for the track was premiered on Youtube this week to an overwhelming reaction.

Bhullar, a bright young 15-year-old student who has excelled in, wrote the lyrics of the pop-rap tune Drive Me Crazy himself and then teamed up with well known Punjabi singer Balvir Boparai to come with the Punjabi chorus, which was then musically arranged and produced by up and coming music producer Harj Nagra.

“After the bullying song, I wanted to do something more broad and popular based and this track about a girl who is driving me crazy was the perfect track to follow up Won’t Stop,” said Sid Bhullar, who is son of a well known veterinarian doctor Hakam Bhullar and MA-M-Phil holder Joti Bhullar.

Sid’s previous track – Won’t Stop, which dealt with bullying, was released last year as a tribute to a young woman in BC who had committed suicide after she had been bullied online. The track along with music video was greatly admired with over 100,000 views on You-tube. The song also provided Sid with a forum to talk about bullying and he appeared on many public events as well as on television and newspapers, talking about the issue of bullying.

Sid, who is only 16-years-old, writes his own songs as well as being integral to their production, which includes making of the important music video for the track. For Drive Me Crazy, he has once again chosen to work with well known local film director R. Paul Dhillon, the director of popular films The Bhangra Generation for OMNI Television and Sweet Amerika, a 9/11 drama starring Bollywood veteran Gulshan Grover, which was released in 2008-09.

Dhillon, who is also the editor of the South Asian LINK newspaper, describes working with Sid and his family a real pleasure, almost a family atmosphere as he has known them for a quite a long time. He said he wanted to do something really different with Drive Me Crazy cause it was not a solo project like Won’t Stop but also featured Punjabi chorus by Balvir Boparai.

“For me, the music video is a mix of old style Bollywood and the new-Gen Sexy Back,” said Dhillon, who doesn’t usually make music videos as he doesn’t find the artists as engaging.

Of course, the Sexy Back is reference to the hit Justin Timberlake track, which Dhillon says is one of his favorite tracks of all time.

“Sid is a special artist for me, now having directed a second music video with him. I’ve done music videos of Jazzy B., mainstream rappers and many others but Sid’s got that special thing in an artist that usually brings out the best creative juices,” Dhillon said.
