India PC Market Declined 19.9 Percent In Q4 2013

BANGALORE – The combined deskbasedand mobile PC market in Indiatotalled nearly 1.96 million units in thefourth quarter of 2013, a 19.9 per centdecrease over the fourth quarter of 2012,according to Gartner, Inc.“Consumers accounted for 49 percent oftotal PC sales in the fourth quarter of2013,” said Vishal Tripathi, principalresearch analyst at Gartner.” In theabsence of any government orders thisquarter, the Indian PC market performeddismally, re-emphasizing the fact thatwith current economic sentiments andthe current political scenario, enterprisesare deferring their purchases.”White boxes (including parallel imports),which accounted for 44 percent of theoverall desktop market, declined 10 percentin the fourth quarter of 2013 comparedto the same period last year. In thefourth quarter, mobile PCs registered a27 percent year on year increase.Dell increased its market share in 4Q13(see Table 1) due to strong growth innotebooks which increased 49 percentyear over year.This growth primarily came from theconsumer segment where Dell grew by70 percent. HP’s market share in the consumersegment grew by 3 percent comparedto the last quarter.
