NRI Held For Smuggling Gold Worth Rs 80 Lakh

HYDERABAD – An NRI, whoallegedly tried to smuggle 2.4kggold worth Rs 80 lakh, wasarrested by Customs authoritiesat Rajiv Gandhi International(RGI) Airport at Shamshabadhere.The Customs officials interceptedMohammed AbdulMateen, who arrived here lastevening by a flight from SaudiArabia via Muscat.After subjecting him to checking,it was found that he wascarrying 2.4 kg yellow metal inthe form of an ashtray whichwas gold electroplated with98.5 per cent purity, Customsofficials said.Mateen, hailing fromHyderabad who works in SaudiArabia, was subsequentlyarrested after recovery of thegold, they added.
