SURREY—B.C. NDP leadership candidate John Horgan keeps rolling along as the only candidate an front-runner in the latest staging of the NDP leadership race expected to take place in September this year.

The latest to support him were Surrey NDP MLAs as well as Surrey NDP MPs Jinny Sims and Jasbir Sandhu as the right leader to connect with the region’s residents.

“I am proud to be endorsed by these three exceptional individuals. Bruce, Jinny and Jasbir do an outstanding job of representing Surrey and Delta,” said Horgan. “New Democrat values of fairness, caring and teamwork resonate strongly here.”

“Small business drives B.C.’s prosperity and here in Surrey we have a vigorous entrepreneurial spirit,” said Sandhu. “John gets that all levels of government must  create the conditions for hardworking small business people to flourish and create good jobs.”

Sims added, “John understands that Surrey residents need good public transit, safe communities, decent paying jobs and good quality public education. He has my full support.”

In Surrey, Horgan also emphasized the B.C. Liberals’ ethical failures, expressing his concern that Premier Clark refuses to call an independent investigation into the serious allegations facing Advanced Education Minister Amrik Virk.

“Real leadership isn’t burying your head in the sand when one of your ministers seems to be involved in a serious transgression and a Surrey university’s excellent reputation is being damaged,” said Horgan. “My leadership—real leadership—will make government about the people of B.C., not helping political friends and insiders to line their pockets.” said Horgan.

The two other Surrey MLAs, Sue Hammell and Harry Bains, who previously declared their support for Horgan, also attended an event Horgan held for the Surrey media on Wednesday.
