VANCOUVER – Conservative MP from South Vancouver has been nominated for YWCA Metro Vancouver’s Women of Distinction Awards in the Non-Profit and Public Sector Category.

“I am deeply honoured to be nominated for the Women of Distinction Awards and humbled to be nominated alongside such strong and able women,” said Wai Young, who defeated controversial Liberal MP Ujjal Dosanjh in the last election. “The Women of Distinction awards are wonderful way to shine light on the important contributions that women of diverse ages, backgrounds and cultures are making to Canada in many different ways.”

“I was delighted to learn that my colleague, Wai Young, has been nominated for a YWCA Metro Vancouver Women of Distinction Award. Like women from all across our country, Wai has balanced the daily challenges of life while making important and lasting contributions to her community,” said the Hon. Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Canada’s Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women. “I wish Wai and all of the nominees the best of luck.  On behalf of the Government of Canada, I thank them for their invaluable contributions and service to making our country stronger.”

Wai Young is also participating in the Connecting the Community Award. Each year, the nominee with the most online votes from the public will receive this award, and ScotiaBank will donate $10,000 to their chosen YWCA program area.

Since 1984, the Women of Distinction Awards has recognized hundreds of Canadian women who have made important contributions to their communities.
