Sikh Walk For Life

Date: Sunday June 22nd 2014

Time: 11am to 2 pm

Venue: North Delta Secondary School Park

Why

1) By having a life saving theme, the Sikh community in Canada can showcase and put to practice Guru Nanak’s principal of “sarbat da bhalla” i.e. “doing good for humanity.” When we become an organ donor or donate blood, we are saving lives, irrespective of who the recipients are.

2) We want to attract and engage our youth to be socially active and follow the steps of our Gurus who were great social activists themselves.

Health Care Theme:

The Canadian Blood Services is the lead organization that is involved in the walk. They will be doing the bone marrow swab testing, signing up organ donors and blood typing. The Kidney Foundation will also have a presence there giving information around kidney screening and overall kidney health. Apart from this the Mental Health Society, BC Cancer Society and Heart and Stroke representatives will be participating giving out health related information in their respective fields.
