Young Driver Flees After Smashing Car Into Indo-Canadian Home In Surrey

“It was like blast noise, it was like an explosion in the house and my whole room was shaken,” said Shihab Banglawala, who lives in the home.” The guy who was driving the car, they just run out of the car and run out the front door of the house”.

SURREY – Mounties are searching for a pair of suspects after a car ploughed into an Indo-Canadian home in Surrey Wednesday night.

Shortly after midnight July 10, a black Chrysler 300 barrelled into a house at 12244 78 Ave., crashing though the wall and sailing into a downstairs bedroom.

Police say a young driver and passenger fled the scene and haven’t been caught.

The people living in the home heard a speeding car just before the crash.

“It was like blast noise, it was like an explosion in the house and my whole room was shaken,” said Shihab Banglawala, who lives in the home.” The guy who was driving the car, they just run out of the car and run out the front door of the house”.

Banglawala says it’s 3rd time a car has lost control and ended up on his property.

A child that normally sleeps in the room where the car landed is out of town, meaning no one was in the room at the time of the crash.

No injuries were reported.

Banglawala said he had just gone to sleep in another basement bedroom Wednesday night when the car, a black sedan, slammed into the house.

“It was like blast noise. It was like an explosion in the house. My whole room was shaking. I tried to get out of my room, but there was so much glass in front of my door, so I had to stay in my room,” said Banglawala.

Banglawala said he was shocked to see the two men inside the car run through his house and out the front door. Neighbours gave chase, and police have arrested one man.

Banglawala said it’s the third time a car has lost control and ended up on his property, while neighbours say poor visibility, lack of warning signs and speed bumps make the neighbourhood dangerous.

A pair of young men in the car got out, walked through the house and ran from the scene.

A neighbour saw one of them and gave pursuit, even following the suspect by cab, all the while calling in locations to the police.

An 18-year-old male was detained as a subject of interest and is being questioned.

Police say the person in custody is the son of the registered owner of the Chrysler.

Police visited the registered owner, who said he had no idea if someone had used his car. He had not reported it stolen, however.

As the registered owner, he was given $564 in tickets, one for driving without consideration ($196) and another for failing to remain at the scene of an accident ($368).

Police are still looking for a second youth who was also reportedly in the car when it smashed into the house.
