Narinder Kaur Kalsi was taken off of life support Sunday afternoon after being in critical condition stemming from a domestic dispute the previous weekend. Her husband, Baldev Singh Kalsi, is now facing second-degree murder charges.

Charge upgraded to second-degree murder against Baldev Kalsi as his wife Narinder Kaur, who was badly beaten at their Surrey home, was taken off life support Sunday.

SURREY — The former president of a Surrey Ramgarhia Sikh temple has been charged with second-degree murder after his wife died in hospital.

Narinder Kaur Kalsi was taken off life support on Sunday after she was found in severe medical distress at her family home in South Surrey on last week.

Baldev Singh Kalsi meanwhile saw his status in his community tumble to the ditch after he was accused of severely beating up his elderly wife, which now has been upgraded to murder, then he was beaten up while in custody and had to be taken to hospital and then his Surrey-based Brookside Temple kicked him out as President. All this and justice still has to be served when his case goes to trial.

Kalsi, 66, former president of the Gurdwara Sahib Brookside, did not appear in Surrey provincial court last Wednesday as expected, as he sustained injuries from an assault that happened while in custody at Surrey Pretrial Centre Tuesday evening.

Kalsi was taken to hospital with facial injuries. A 42-year-old inmate has been identified as a possible suspect.

Authorities received a call at around noon Sunday, July 13 that a woman was in distress at a home in South Surrey, near 194 Street and 32 Avenue.

When they arrived to the scene, they found the woman with life threatening injuries.
