BANGALORE – Travelling to U.S. this festive season? Be ready to shell out more on the trip as the rates are set high with the growing demand for tickets. As stated by the travel agents, the rise in prices may be due to the New Jersey’s Swaminarayan Utsav or the starting of new semesters in the colleges in U.S., reports Times Of India.

Apparently, the hike in fares across all the airlines starts from 80, 000 and rises up to 1 lakh for the one way trip in an economy class. The hike comes at a time when thousands of devotees are said to visit the Akshardham temple in New Jersey with many students rushing to attend their first semesters at the U.S colleges too.

“The rush for tickets could be seen post-Eid when the holiday period began in the U.S. The seats are available at higher prices till September but still people are buying as demand is increasing by the day,” said Sanjeev Chajjer, Vice-President, Cox & Kings.

“I had booked a return ticket a month in advance for Rs 95,000 via Doha while some of my friends who are trying to book tickets are finding it difficult to get tickets at a reasonable cost,” said Anmol Jain, who is heading to Pennsylvania next week to pursue business management from Upenn College.

“There is a rise of over 50 percent in the number of Gujaratis travelling to the US and Canada in August in comparison to last year,” said Manish Sharma, chairman, Gujarat Tour Operators’ Association.
