Five Punjab Cops Booked For Extortion

BATALA – The Batala police have booked one head constable and four constables on the charges of extorting Rs 25,000 from a villager. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against them. The accused have been suspended.

They have been identified as head constable Joga Singh and constables Sukhdeep Singh, Saranjeet Singh, Naresh Kumar and Gurjit Singh. A senior police officer said action would be taken against more police personnel who had been found guilty of harassing residents.

Manminder Singh, SSP, said Tarundeep Singh of Thakriwal village complained to him that some policemen had detained him illegally and forced him to pay Rs 25,000 for his release.
