The Dalai Lama visited John Oliver Secondary in Vancouver Tuesday morning as part of his visit and summit meant to encourage British Columbians to balance education of the heart and the mind in Vancouver. The invitation-only youth dialogue with students at John Oliver Secondary is one of three events he attended this week. While there were 1400 students, teachers and parents in the audience, five students from around the province got a rare opportunity for a one-on-one question. John Oliver Student Council President Sid Bhullar was among the five who got a close encounter with his Holiness and was one of the four persons to receive the special Scarf from the Dalai Lama. Beaded Sikh-Canadian student Jaspreet Singh was the recipient of the Dalai Lama’s trademark beard touching ceremony. Also present for the occasion were school Principle Tim McGeer, Vice principle Thomas Harapnuick and Superintendent Steve Cardwell.
