Vancouver Magazine’s annual Power 50 honoured the city’s movers and shakers Monday night at the Vancouver Club. This year’s list included Luigi Acquilini, the father of the Vancouver Canucks owners the Acquilini brothers, who was named Number One on the list. There were two Indo-Canadians and one Nepali-Canadian on the list. Construction King Daljit Thind of Thind Properties made the list along with former Surrey Councillor Barinder Rasode, who didn’t make history as first South Asian female mayor by losing badly on Saturday. Vancouver Librarian Sandra Singh (her dad is Indo-Nepali) also made the list this year where the magazine recognized a large number of women making a difference in our city. There was no doubt that Thind, one of the top Indo-Canadian developers in Vancouver, was the big winner on the list. Thind has seen his profile slowly rise, beginning with the announcement of his two big high rise projects in Vancouver, followed by his partnership with Time of India Film Awards (TOIFA) last year that raised his profile globally, including in India. “Nice-guy” Thind, who has$300 million worth of real estate on the drawing board in Metro Vancouver and is considering embarking on projects in India, was an easy choice for the Power list. Who will  be on next year’s Vancouver Magazine’s annual Power 50 List from our community. Tom Gill, may be!
