Businessman Barj Dhahan Allegedly Dropped Out Due To Membership Violations!

Too bad challenger Barj Dhahan stepped down allegedly over membership violations (party sources tell the LINK) so a nomination didn’t take place, which is still better than when the Liberals parachuted Ujjal Dosanjh in the same riding years ago when other candidates had already signed up thousands of members for a potential nomination fight.  But where were these moderate guys when the party parachuted Dosanjh. Hypocrisy in politics usually means the guys crying foul have no credibility.

SOUTH VANCOUVER – If you are a federal Liberal you should be celebrating Col. Harji Sajjan’s nomination cause your party got a great candidate, a real Canadian hero, for the South Vancouver riding that was Liberal in the past.

So what was all this nonsense this week from some so-called moderates in the riding about Prem Vinning manipulating the process to get his man Sajjan into the riding despite his challenger businessman Barj Dhahan having signed up thousands of members.

There was the obvious CULPRIT (take a guess) behind all the loud mouth crying and threats by the usual suspects of leaving the party when in fact many of the people are hard core NDPers or go wherever the political wind blows.

The funny thing is – isn’t is Vinning’s job to get his candidate elected at any cost just like his opponents’ job is to elect theirs. Only one can win and Vinning was again on the winning side after his team in Surrey helped Surrey First win the municipal elections.

However, community needs to call out these people for unnecessarily bringing a great Sikh organization like WSO into this whole mess and putting them in the same league as some other Khalistani extremists who have endorsed violence – a real shame if you ask me – and using the CBC’s has-been reporter Terry Milewski, who is known for his anti-Sikh diatribes in the past, to do a one-sided story (presumably as their old mainstream media ally is no longer covering this kind of nonsense).

WSO has done nothing but great things for Sikhs in Canada – I know cause I’ve been watching them and covering their work. They have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of and is the only Sikh organization that can hang their head high because they let their work speak for itself.

The usual divisive nonsense erupted after federal nomination battle in South Vancouver  fizzled after “moderate Sikh” candidate Dhahan stepped down to make room for decorated army man and ex-VPD constable Sajjan, the first turbaned Sikh to command a Canadian army regiment, to be acclaimed as the riding’s candidate at a nomination meeting Friday evening.

Too bad Dhahan stepped down allegedly over membership violations (party sources tell the LINK) so a nomination didn’t take place, which is still better than when the Liberals parachuted Ujjal Dosanjh in the same riding years ago when other candidates had already signed up thousands of members for a potential nomination fight.  But where were these moderate guys when the party parachuted Dosanjh. Hypocrisy in politics usually means the guys crying foul have no credibility.

Liberal leader Justin Trudeau rightly slapped the guys crying foul when he told CBC News that he isn’t worried a few members of the Sikh community.

“I wouldn’t give too much credence to the people who are complaining very loudly,” Trudeau said.

“Because it’s so competitive across the country, because there’s such a great energy around the Liberal Party, there’s an awful lot of people who want to join, who want to become MPs. Unfortunately, when it doesn’t work out for someone’s favourite candidate, there can be hurt feelings. This is politics.”

Trudeau told CBC radio host Rick Cluff that Sajjan is a strong candidate to represent the party going forward.

“Harj … is an honest to goodness Canadian hero, a decorated veteran, three tours in Afghanistan and an extraordinary individual who will be a great contributor to our parliamentary scene and our party.”

Parties have a prerogative to pick who they want to run in a particular riding just as the Conservatives, who did something even something worst when they didn’t let former MP Gurmant Grewal and hall owner Paul Brar run in the new riding of Surrey-Cloverdale!.

And it’s not going to be a cake-walk for Sajjan either as Conservative MP Wai Young has strong support and there are a lot of Chinese in that riding.

Party sources say Sajjan had 1100 members and Dhahan may of had 4 times that amount but nobody really knows how many were actually legitimate members so that number of 3500-4000 means nothing.   There is little doubt that the party wanted Sajjan and perhaps used the heat (alleged membership violations by Dhahan’s team) towards Dhahan as way to get him out of South Van.

And also there is no doubt that Vinning is the one who brought in Sajjan in as a potential star candidate and it was his job to get him nominated and he seems to have succeeded on all counts and that too without a nomination even taking place. Give Vinning the Gold Medal for getting stuff done as in politics all that matters is getting stuff done. The rest is a lot of fu… hot air!
