GURDASPUR – Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today advised former CM Capt Amarinder Singh to refrain from issuing statements that were illogical in nature and did not behove his status as a former chief executive of the state.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone of a drainage project, Badal said the Congress MP should not forget that he (Badal) had been bestowed upon the responsibility of serving the state by the people and only the electorate had the power to remove him.

“I enjoy a mandate given to me by the people of Punjab. Amarinder’s party was rejected by the people in the 2012 Assembly elections. So he has no locus standi to speak on issues that concern the state and the welfare of its people,” remarked Badal.

“I have been elected the Chief Minister of the state for a record fifth term and am serving the state as per the wishes of party and the public. Throughout my political career I have been a votary of morality and have never stooped so low by issuing undesirable and unwarranted statements,” he said.

He added that “my friend Capt Amarinder must understand that democracy is based on the verdict of people and not directed by the whims and fancies of a particular individual.”

On the botched eye surgeries in Ghuman village, the Chief Minister said he had already ordered a high-level probe and no one would be spared.

“The law of the land will be followed and guilty will be brought to book,” Badal said.
