Dear Mr. Dhillon,

Both Alberta and British Columbia have legislation in place for licensing Home Inspectors, but have found it a rocky road.  Meanwhile Ontario, currently preparing to license Inspectors, looks on as British Columbia revisits their legislation and Alberta awaits a CSA (Canadian Standards Association) report. Under contract by the government of Alberta, CSA’s committee (a group of 30 people of which only 8 are home inspectors) has released new Draft Standard CSA-A770 Home Inspection requesting Public Input by Dec 15, 2014. Some Profession Home Inspectors caution this could change the industry across Canada and estimate a CSA-A770 Inspection could take as long as take 16-32 hours.

Bruce McClure RHI, ACI & International Activist has more than 16 years of experience as a home inspector and knows first-hand that not all homes — or home inspectors — are created equal. In fact, many of the best Home Inspectors are blacklisted by realtors because their honesty could cause them to lose a sale, while a number of the more questionable inspectors become realtor favorites for their willingness to hide the whole truth about a home’s condition.

Although governments are trying, Bruce McClure can offer an explanation as to why their efforts have failed. In an interview, McClure can discuss:

•             A detailed explanation of what home inspections would entail should CSA-A770 be passed

•             Why licensing in 35 States and 2 Provinces has failed to provide Consumer Protection.

•             Who really controls the home inspection industry in North America

•             How some of the most impressive sounding credentials used my home inspectors mean very little.

•             Myths created by Reality Television

In his book, Buy or Run: I’m a Real Home Inspector, Not a TV Celebrity, McClure provides readers with an informative and controversial inside look at the world of home inspection. Far from a how-to book, he delves into the state of the industry, the part that real estate plays, and exposes who’s really working for who.

McClure is available for interviews, articles, and commentary. If you’d like to see a copy of Buy or Run: I’m a Real Home Inspector, Not a TV Celebrity please let me know.
