DELTA – More than 3000 years of human history clearly tells about the male dominance in society. The women and girls have been ill-treated by the so-called equal partners-male of the community. There has been some improvements in the social, religious and financial status since last century but violence against women still remains a major issue. This One Billion Rising Revolution is not only to create awareness but to put full- stop on an ongoing injustice and suffering of women and girls. This Revolution was launched in 2013 and since then all around the world on February13 people rise and take oath to end violence against women in communities and work places. People pledge that they will not commit, allow ,or encourage violence against women.
This year the Net Work To Eliminate Violence In Relationship (NEVR) organization arranged the event on February 13,2015 at Fire Hall Centre For Arts in Delta.Dr.Balbir Gurm, Chair of NEVR welcomed the guests. The Aboriginal Elder opened the ceremony with prayer. Stephanie Cadieux, Minister of Children and Family Development and Mayor Lois E. Jackson of City of Delta spoke on the occasion. Karen Scott and Kamal Dhillon narrated their sad and terrible violent experiences they have gone through that touched the hearts of audience. Participants enthusiastically took part in dance and enjoyed the refreshments.
