OTTAWA – On Wednesday in the House of Commons, MP for Surrey North, Jasbir Sandhu, questioned the Minister of Finance, Joe Oliver, regarding the Conservative government’s cuts to programs that monitor high-risk sex offenders and demanded more funding to keep child predators from re-offending.

“The federal government continues to cut rehabilitation programs for high-risk sex offenders, such as Canada’s Circles of Support and Accountability Projects, which have been proven to protect our communities by monitoring these dangerous individuals after they are released from prison,” said Sandhu.

Sandhu pointed to two tragic incidents in Surrey where dangerous sex-offenders were released into the community without being monitored by police. He demanded that the Minister provide additional funding to observe these individuals and to prevent tragedies like these from occurring in the future.

“The federal government has the responsibility to ensure that every Canadian feels safe in their community and that dangerous sex offenders remain accountable for their behavior,” said Sandhu. “There should be zero tolerance when these individuals are released back into the community.”
