SURREY – My FM Broadcasting inc., which runs on the frequency 106.9FM, is bringing a new era in Punjabi radio in Surrey, a market that has a number of Punjabi radio stations.

What sets the station apart, according to operators Ravinder Singh Pannu, Sarbjit Saroya and  Harvinder Dhandwar  is that it focuses on providing interesting and informative information about tourist destinations to public and visitors.

The station focuses on providing important details on ferry timings, border timings, train timings, airport details (parking charges, riding to airport, Aeroplane Delays etc), city events, community awareness, talk shows, live-on locations, weather report and traffic report.

“We wanted to bring a new format to the market here in Surrey & Delta that gives an alternative to the existing formats,” says Saroya, who was previously heavily involved in Punjabi music with his Planet Recordz label, which he still operates. The new radio venture brings Saroya back to the lower mainland, the stomping ground of his formative years when he also operated Des Perdes and Jee Ayan Nu TV shows on Vision TV.

Pannu, who is also not new to electronic media after running a 24/7 in Toronto and also 91.5FM Canadian-Punjabi channel Sur Sagar Radio & TV and radio, said the South Asian community needed a media group that would provide information and entertainment to the hard working immigrant, irrespective of his or her country of origin.

Pannu, who has been operating Sur Sagar Radio & TV in Toronto since 1994,  Ravinder Pannu has received authorization to run two FM channel in surrey & Delta B.C.

Pannu also anchored the show Awaz-e-Punjab (The voice of Punjab) on City TV from 1986 to 1992. From 1992 to 1994, Pannu produced, directed and anchored yet another TV show called Sajri Saver on the same channel.

Pannu, who holds Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science and a diploma in computer science, also started an NRI channel for Asian and Middle East countries.

Aside from MyFM, Pannu has also launched a 24 hours Gurbani FM channel in Surrey on 95.1 FM. Shortly, his company will also launch two additional FM channels in BC. Sur Sagar TV is available 24/7 free in Washington USA  & Lower Mainland.
