Punjab MLA Joginder Pal Jain’s Son Elected As Moga Mayor

MOGA – Akshit Jain, the son of sitting Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) legislator Joginderpal Jain, was on Monday elected Mayor of Moga Municipal Corporation.

For the mayoral post, SAD MLA Joginderpal Jain’s son Akshit Jain was declared elected, the Returning Officer (RO) said.

The senior Deputy Mayor’s post went to BJP’s Anil Bansal, he said, adding that Independent Jarnail Singh was elected as Deputy Mayor.

For the three key posts, polling was held among elected members from 50 wards of Moga Municipal Corporation (MC).

Senior Akali leader and cabinet minister Tota Singh was against unanimous election of Akshit Jain for the post of mayor and preferred voting for the mayoral post against the ruling party mandate.

Elections to six MCs in Punjab –SAS Nagar Mohali, Moga, Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot and Phagwara held recently were swept by the ruling SAD-BJP alliance swept.
