Mani Deol-Fallon Seeking Nomination In Riding Currently Held By NDP MP Jasbir Sandhu!

By R. Paul Dhillon

SURREY – Conservative party’s Indo-Canadian outreach worker Mani Deol-Fallon, who lost to NDP’s Jinny Sims in the last election, is trying her luck in the neighbouring riding of Surrey Centre, which is currently held by NDP MP Jasbir Sandhu.

Deol-Fallon, along with Punjabi TV and radio man Harpreet Singh (who many say was recruited by Deol-Fallon) are Conservatives’ two recruits in the heart of Surrey’s South Asian community but both are average to below average candidates with limited appeal to the mainstream of the South Asian community, which in the upcoming election seems to be leaning towards Justin Trudeau Liberals.

Singh, out of the two, has a little more profile being in the Punjabi media but he is hamstrung this time as the reconfigured Surrey-Newton riding has lost much of the Conservative support while leaving the NDP and Liberal support intact.

Some of Singh’s opponents are also criticizing him for remaining on as host of his Joy TV show as well as the radio host on Punjabi radio RedFM even though he is already the Conservative candidate in Surrey-Newton which usually is considered unethical because it gives the media-candidate extra advantage of being in front of the public.

But this kind of ethical conduct is only true in the mainstream community as in the South Asian community, they talk a lot about ethics but no one really follows, not even budding politicians.

One opponent dismissed Singh not removing himself from the media by saying: “He’s going to lose anyway so no one gives a shit. In Surrey-Newton, it’s between Sukh (Dhaliwal] and Jinny [Sims] anyway.”

Fallon-Deol cites as experience her working in the office of the  Jason Kenney, Minister for Multiculturalism and being the regional party organizer BC.

“I passionately believe in the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. With a focus on keeping our community safe and keeping taxes low for families, I look forward to working hard to win the nomination so that I can join the Prime Minister’s team in the next election and ensure Surrey Centre has a strong voice in Ottawa,” Deol-Fallon said in a press release.
