HOSHIARPUR – The police have booked four people, including a gynaecologist, charging them of attempt to murder, under the PNDT Act and MTP Act on the complaint of a woman. The accused include complainant’s mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law. The foetus was recovered and the postmortem was conducted at the Dasuya civil hospital by a medical board led by a forensic expert.

According to sources, Dr Naresh Kansra, SMO in charge of the Dasuya Civil Hospital, received information that a woman was admitted to the Guru Nanak Mission Hospital and had an abortion there. Dr Kansra said the woman alleged that she was given some medicine by her in-laws to abort pregnancy as her gynaecologist had told them that she was bearing a female child.

The victim said she was having her regular check-up from Dr Monica Chopra of the Chopra Nursing Hospital in Dasuya.

She said Dr Chopra told her that she was bearing a female child. After that her in-laws started harassing her and she was made to work excessively and was allegedly abused for bearing female child.

She claimed that her in-laws gave her some medicine. After the third dose of the medicine, she said her condition deteriorated and she called up her parents who took her to the Guru Nanak Mission Hospital where doctors told her that the foetus was dead and suggested immediate surgery to remove it.

Dr Kansra said the scanning machine and records of the Chopra Nursing Hospital was sealed and the foetus was recovered. A postmortem of the foetus was conducted at Dasuya civil hospital.
