Indo-Canadian Woman And Her 18-Year-Old Grandson Among 8 Killed In Punjab Accident

Indo-Canadian Ranjit Kaur and her grandson Mehakdeep were killed when the vehicle the were travelling in collided with a truck. Both had come to India about a month ago and were to fly back to Canada on March 31. They were residents of Toronto and were returning after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple on Wednesday and were Anandpur Sahib-bound on Thursday.

SAMRALA – Eight persons, including two Indo-Canadians, were killed in a collision between the vehicle they were travelling in and a truck near Powat village in Machhiwara around 6 am today.

Indo-Canadian Ranjit Kaur and her grandson Mehakdeep were killed when the vehicle the were travelling in collided with a truck. Both had come to India about a month ago and were to fly back to Canada on March 31.

They were residents of Toronto and were returning after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple on Wednesday and were Anandpur Sahib-bound on Thursday.

The other deceased included Joginder Singh (55), Tanvir Singh (18), Manmeet Singh (16), Kulvir Singh (20) and Beer Kaur (45), all from Moga, and Surinderpal Singh of Droli Bhai, who was behind the wheels.

All the victims died on the spot.

The police and residents of nearby villages faced a tough time while extricating the bodies. The victims were on their way to pay obeisance at a gurdwara in Anandpur Sahib.

Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Gill along with Superintendent of Police Satinderpal Singh reached the accident site and handed the bodies to the relatives of the victims after a post-mortem at the Civil Hospital in Samrala.
