Brainwashed By Drugs And Violence – Our Youth Need A New Mantra

Gun crime has erupted frequently in Surrey and Delta in the last few weeks. But this is only a spike in the shootings that have gone on for many years. The violence is essentially related to the illicit drug trade and competition for territory and profits. It is, perhaps, safe to say that in the drug trade there are no “friends.”

Over the years the police, the city, the gurdwaras, mandirs, churches and social organizations have not been able to curb the violence wrought by the illicit drug trade. It is also conceivable that such agencies will not be able to adequately control the violence as long as the drug trade exists. Can there be a motto or formula that can be drilled into the minds of all people likely to be affected by such violence, including all youth who may be “brainwashed” by peers or drug pushers? We can use the word C-R-I-M-E to formulate such a motto as shown here:

C reate

R ight

I ntentions

M indfully

E veryday

This formula is easy to remember and reminds us that the negative effects of crime can be reversed to instill positive values in us. This can become a simple mantra that can be repeated daily or several times a day, until it becomes an integral part of the personality. Remember that the word Man – Tra means to protect the mind. Once the mind is “protected” all the positive behaviours and their consequences will also be “protected.”
