CGI-Effects Overkill Ruins Latest Marvel’s Avengers Superhero Romp!

By Alan Samuel

Worlds collide and danger abounds. Sparks fly often at a Constant rate in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Smart and sassy somehow the creative masterminds at Marvel Studios have again raised the bar for quality entertainment that takes imagination to a new level. Catch all the excitement  on what’s shaping up to be the year of Disney at Cineplex Odeon Theatres  around BC.

Trouble big time is on the  horizon for our disjointed team of would be heroes. Differences aside the likes of Iron Man, The Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, Captain America and a man with a passion for bows and arrows that would put Robin Hood to shame (whose name escapes me )  must pull together to stop a mad creation  determined to destroy the world. Leave it to Robert Downey Jr. (The Judge), Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher), Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans (Cellular)  and Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) to rise up and stand down a computerized vision who gives bad science an even worse name.

Colour this silvery slime of a robot pure evil. Out to rule the world is Ultron, a figure born of artificial intelligence with a passion for pain. Who better than The Blacklist’s Master criminal Raymond Reddington to shed light on this awful creation. Though you can’t see him James Spader’s voice oozes  pure evil as the relentless robot whose encounters with The Avengers are memorable.

Co-written by director Joss Whedon this 141 minute fantasy will blindside you with its colossal sets and intricate action sequences. Terrific chemistry between all the cast and a droll sense of humour with wise cracks aplenty simply builds your affection for the good guys/gals trying to save the planet. And the insertion of a dynamic pair of German twins and the menace of Hydra, a crime syndicate in the best Spectre James Bond  tradition,  further ups the ante in this rousing affair,

Really funny lines, engaging back and forth banter and a truly  fun atmosphere turn Avengers: Age of Ultron into a must see extravaganza.  Oh, and stick around for the end credits for a few tacked on surprise scenes indicating that The avengers will be back. Bet on it.
