My boyfriend and I have been together for 6 years, our parents won’t agree to the marriage!
Well, this is a common question that has come up time and time again between Indo Canadian families and my answer to this always is to just reason with your parents and make them see a different side of the man or woman that you wish to marry and spend the rest of your life with. This is the best way to deal with this situation and many a times, people even marry someone of their parents’ choice and it doesn’t work out. In my opinion, it’s better to have known someone before you marry them and so just try to reason with your parents in the best way possible. XOXO Paarull
My mom thinks that I should marry now as I’m 30 years of age and a girl! Girls in the Indian culture are considered too old to marry apparently. I have a PhD and earn 6 figures but that is still not good enough. I do not plan on getting married right now and to anyone at this point.
Well this is just normal as no matter what culture you belong to, that is the common opinion on women worldwide! There is nothing wrong with being single and successful and I’m sure looking at your career path, you seem like a smart woman who is well capable to make her own decisions. I was forced into an arranged marriage about 2 years ago to a man I barely knew and now I hate my life. I hate the way he is, I don’t like his personality, I’m not even attracted to him. I fear that my family will disown me! What should I do?
I think that if you don’t like the way your life is at the moment, then Speak up! I’m sure your family will understand you and will be supportive. Always remember that no matter what others may tell you, your family will always be on your side. XOXO Paarull
