SURREY – Following on the heels of the promotion of Sergeant Parmvir (Parm) Prihar, who was made Commander the Newton District Office on Tuesday, Surrey RCMP announced Wednesday the promotion of Inspector Mandip “Manny” Mann, Senior Investigator of the Major Crime Section, to the rank of Superintendent in the position of Investigative Services Officer.

In this new role, Superintendent Mann will oversee all of Surrey Detachment’s investigative sections including: Drugs, Major Crime, Property Crime, Vulnerable Persons, and the Special Projects Investigation Enforcement Section.

Superintendent Mann has been with the RCMP for over 24 years and has done all of his service in the Lower Mainland region, with 9 years spent in Surrey. After beginning his career on Surrey General Duty, he quickly gravitated towards investigative services with a position in the Surrey Drug Section.

Mann’s next 15 years were spent in investigative roles with the E Division Undercover Unit, North Vancouver RCMP General Investigation Section, and over 7 years with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). He was also a member of the Emergency Response Team.  In 2011 he returned to Surrey Detachment as a team commander in the Major Crime Section, followed by a promotion to his most recent role of Senior Investigator of Major Crime.

“We are very fortunate to have Superintendent Manny Mann as the new leader of our Investigative Services Section. Manny has a broad base of experience inclusive of working as an undercover police officer, homicide investigator, and manager of numerous major crime investigations. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in leading and managing complex police investigations,” saidSurrey RCMP Officer in Charge, Chief Superintendent Bill Fordy.

“As the first RCMP Superintendent in British Columbia of South Asian descent, he is well positioned to be an excellent role model for our youth and better connect the Surrey RCMP with Surrey’s significant South Asian community.”

Born and raised in BC, Supt. Mann has lived in Surrey for over 20 years and has raised his family here. As a minor hockey coach for ten years and a past Cops for Cancer rider, Supt. Mann is committed to and engaged with his local community. He is also fluent in the Punjabi language.

“Ultimately, I joined the RCMP to help people and to put bad guys in jail – that’s still why I come to work every day,” said Mann. “I am honoured to take on this new role in Investigative Services. We have a fantastic team who are dedicated to solving crime and protecting our citizens, that I will very be proud to lead.”
