I asked “How Dr. Pujol’s letter found a way to me via your e-mail, Paul?’ And he wrote back, “Sorry, seems like some scamster. I don’t know how they have attached themselves to our email but we had a massive virus attack that wiped out our computers. So be careful but I will get my tech people to check it out. Just ignore it and delete the emails from him.”

You might remember reading my article, “Each One Teach One” published in the oldest South community newspaper in Canada, The LINK.

Well, I sure got lucky this time. The acknowledgement of the LINK Editor Mr. R. Paul Dillon accepting my thoughts for a publication, accidentally, fetched me an offer of twenty million USD, if I accepted to become a trustee of a US$100 million charity-fund.

“Wow! Am I lucky or what?

Given the offer, as predicted, “You are getting recognition for your ideas and your hard work, your partners and colleagues trust you – and who knows, there may be a salary increase coming your way…” (Taro Card Reading June 24, 2015), who can distrust the magic forecast? I exclaimed.

“Who gave you my name to perform such an honourable responsibility,” I wrote back to Philanthropist Dr. Bruno Pujol, humbly.  Dr. Pujol giving me a few details about himself and his ailing health responded immediately. I quote:
“Hello,
My name is Mr Bruno Pujol. I am 81 years old and I was diagnosed for cancer for about 2 years ago. I am sorry to contact you in this manner but please bear in mind that i got your contact in international directories with World Health Organization. I will be going in for an operation later today. I decided to WILL/DONATE the sum of $100,000,000.00 USD (Hundred Millions United States Dollars) to you because of your profile and status.

I have willed and given most of my property and assets to my immediate and extended family members as well as a few close friends. I have decided to give alms to charity organizations, as I want this to be one of the last good deeds I do on earth. So far, I have distributed money to some charity organizations in the U.A.E, Algeria, South America, Eastern Europe and Malaysia. Now that my health has deteriorated so badly, I cannot do this myself anymore

The last of my money which no one knows of is the huge cash deposit of $100,000.000 USD (Hundred Millions United States Dollars), that I have with a finance/firm Company abroad. I will want you to help me collect this deposit and dispatched it to charity organizations. I have set aside 20% for you for your time and patience. Please send a reply through this email address ([email protected] ) with your full contact information for more private and confidential communication.

Yours truly,
Dr. Bruno Pujol.”

After reading Dr. Pujol’s (emotionally and spiritually charged) compelling response, I reviewed my qualifications to match his offer, but found me lacking.  Though, when I was living in India, I had worked for the Controller of Defence Accounts (Air Force) for a period of four years and then I managed a large sum of budget as Registrar of the BC Benefits Appeal Board for six years I still didn’t feel qualified to manage the sum of money Dr. Pujol wished me to handle.

Furthermore, I know I have a Doctor’s degree and I have taught at several universities overseas, but that degree is not in medicine. It is academic. How did my name enter the international directories of the World Health Organization, as Dr. Pujol suggested? “It sounds flattering but how could that happen?” I questioned my self.

Another issue, “How come Dr. Pujol is planning to entrust me with such a large amount of money and not those relatives and friends, he so generously donated his money to, why me, a total stranger?’ continued to bother me as bed-bugs used to, while I tried to sleep at night, when I lived in Chhindwara (MP), serving as Assistant Research Officer at a Tribal Research Institute.

And finally, I questioned my qualifications to untangle his secret cash that no one knows of to help him collect…. and dispatch it to charity organizations.

I thought it was about time to bring in some heavy hitters. I share the story with my wife. Her instant verdict was, “I am telling you it is a scam.”

I consulted my younger daughter Shachi. She advised, “Delete it, Dad.” I needed one final vote. That came from our first born, Aparna. That too was a Flat, “Delete it.”

Now I ask you, “What do you say?
