Well Known Quesnel Resident, Councilman Amar Singh Bagri Passes Away

SURREY – Long-time Quesnel resident Amar Singh Bagri passed away on Monday, June 29th at the age of 86.

He was born in the village of Chak Kalan in India on January 6, 1929.  He married Rajinder Kaur on February 14, 1949 and left India and moved to England in 1954.  After working in England for 16 years, he and his family moved to Quesnel, BC in 1970.  He settled in Quesnel and remained there all these years.

Well known in the community, Amar Singh served on Quesnel City Council as an Alderman, worked as an interpreter for the Indo-Canadian community, and enjoyed spending his time traveling and catching up with friends and family.

He is survived by his four children: Rani Gill, Iqbal (Ravinder) Bagri, Michael(Ravinder) Bagri, Stuart Bagri; seven grandchildren;  four great-grandchildren; and numerous close family members and friends.

A gathering to celebrate Amar’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 4th at Riverside Funeral Home, 7410 Hopcott Rd., Delta, BC. Bhog ceremony and prayer will follow at the Khalsa Diwan Society 103-7938 128 St, Surrey, BC.
