ABBOTSFORD – As usual, an amusing and educative youth summer camp was arranged by Dasmesh Canadian Sikh Society at Gurdwara Baba Banda Singh Bahadar, Abbotsford, BC to make fair use of the summer vacations and to keep children active for volunteer service to the society. More than 150 boys and girls along with their parents took part in the camp.

The seminar on drugs and interactive discussion on principles of Sikhism had star speaker and anti-drugs-gangs activist Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains, an eminent Sikh scholar, who addressed the joint session of campers and their parents.

Dr Bains made a wonderful demonstration through multimedia technology about Sikh history, culture, heritage, universal Sikh concepts and sacrifices made by the great martyrs against human suppression to uphold human liberty, equality and fraternity. Dr. Bains created awareness on the menace of drugs and their solutions to save the youth from the evils of drugs, their trading, gang culture, domestic violence, youth brawls, bullying, murders, flesh trading and HIV-AIDS etc. It was an amazing and interactive session in which both campers and their parents took active part during question and answer hour.

While taking about the socio-religious and ethno-cultural values to enrich their lives, Dr. Bains

motivated the campers to respect their life values and to make the multicultural Canada a peaceful and prosperous country in the world.  It was valuavle interactive session to talk about

challenges which were being faced by teens in today’s life.

.

The campers along with their parents pledged to stay away from drugs and other social evils by showing hands. They promised to carry this message to the doors of community also. Dr Raghbir Singh Bains was honoured with a plaque to recognize his distinguished services to the global society.
