An estimated one million people celebrated Canada’s 148th anniversary at the 28th Annual Canada Day at Canada Place on Wednesday. Celebrations were also held in Surrey at the Cloverdale grounds and also at Sunset Community Centre in South Vancouver. This year’s Canada Place event featured a full day of free family fun, highlights of which included live music and performances on three stages, a new family-friendly licensed area on the North Point, food carts, street hockey, the Canadian Forces Zone and the Vancouver Circus School. Live music included performances on the main-stage featuring headliner Hannah Georgas, Tim Chaisson, Don Amero, and Rumba Calzada, and the North Point Stage, with performances by The Hairfarmers, Watasun, and Bellwoods. The traditional Canada Day citizenship ceremony welcomed 60 new Canadians. The evening featured a Canada Day parade on downtown streets, topped off by the Coast Capital Savings Canada Day Fireworks.
