Tok Herar, a long time resident of Mission, presented the 100 Year Journey Book to Mayor Randy Hawes and to the District of Mission on July 20th. In his brief presentation, Herar proudly spoke about the South Asian population contributions to the area and also on the legacy of Naranajan Grewall, the first politician of Indo-Canadian-Punjabi descent to be elected in Canada. Grewall, who was first elected to public office in 1950 and then to Mayor in 1954, was one of the first to be selected to run for a major Canadian political party in 1956 and ran with the CCF (NDP now) and fought for logging rights across the province. Along with Grewal, Tok Herar is also featured in the book for his work and sporting life.
