SURREY—Another violent incident in Surrey, this time in the Port Kells neighbourhood, has the NDP calling on the Conservatives to stop the delays for getting the 100 RCMP officers on the ground.

“I’ve been a police officer for over 38 years. The Conservatives don’t seem to be serious about tackling crime in Surrey,” said Garry Begg, NDP candidate for Fleetwood-Port Kells and former senior RCMP officer in Surrey. “The Conservatives promised 100 additional RCMP officers after repeated calls from the NDP but they just aren’t delivering.”

Only six of the 100 RCMP officers have been deployed and Begg is pushing the Conservatives to deploy the remaining 94 officers. Gang related shootings and stabbings continue to be a major concern across the city of Surrey and the NDP vows to keep the pressure on the Conservatives.

“Residents of Fleetwood-Port Kells are demanding answers from the Conservatives and Ms. Grewal but it seems like they are more concerned about their re-election,” added Begg. “It’s time the Conservatives stop playing political games and get serious about crime in Surrey.”
