2 Cops Trying To Stop Illegal Mining Beaten Up

TANDA – Two policemen who had gone to check illegal mining in Abdullapur village were beaten up by over 20 persons. The Dasuya police have booked the accused on the charges of attempt to murder, intent to steal, illegal mining, theft, obstruction of official duty, etc, on the statement of the injured policemen.

Head constable Kuldip Singh of Galdian, in his complaint, has named Sukha Singh, Des Raj, Shinda Chidi, Raju, Thanedar, Mitthu, Kala, Gurmej, all residents of Abdullapur and others. Kuldip said he was patrolling along with fellow Home Guard personnel Hemraj in the Miani Bias area to check illegal sand mining from the river.

About 12 midnight, they saw lights of tractors in Mewa Miani and suspecting sand theft, they went closer. On seeing them, the accused turned the tractors back and reached Abdullapur where more men were standing with tractor-trailers. They allegedly attacked the policemen with iron rods and sticks and tore their uniforms. When they were severely wounded, they could hear the accused talking about killing them and throwing them in the river. However, the Dasuya police reached there on time and the accused fled. The inured were admitted to the Civil Hospital. The Tanda Police have registered a case against the accused.
