Enforcement Directorate Officer Blames “Drug-Peddler” Majithia For His Transfer!

Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa has said the development points to the collusion of the BJP with Akalis in shielding the drug mafia. “Our earlier stand that those at the helm of affairs in the Punjab government are interfering with the investigation to shield Majithia stands vindicated,” he alleged.

LAMBI – Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said that it was amusing for him that Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer Niranjan Singh blamed him for his transfer.

“It is amusing to me. The officer did not even think that the matter is sub judice,” said Bikram Majithia on the submission of ED Assistant Director’s counsel in the high court.

Majithia, along with Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, had come here to attend the bhog ceremony of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s cousin Surinder Singh Badal.

The counsel of the ED officer appearing in the Punjab and Haryana High Court had yesterday submitted, “The only reason why Niranjan Singh was shifted was that he had summoned and examined Majithia. There was a fear that the officer could summon and examine him again.”

This is the first time that the ED officer had blamed Majithia for his transfer. Niranjan Singh had summoned Majithia for questioning in the money-laundering investigation in the Jagdish Bhola case on December 26 last year and was transferred on January 16 this year.

However, the high court had stayed his transfer on January 21. The case will now come up for further hearing on September 23.

The ongoing controversy has caused huge embarrassment to the SAD-BJP coalition government in the state. The Congress leaders have time and again raised this issue, making a scathing attack on the state government.

Phagwara:PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa has demanded the immediate resignations of Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia and Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma on moral grounds as their direct or indirect role in “anti-social” activities had been unearthed.

He said the earlier stand of the Congress stands vindicated after the submission made by the officer.

Bajwa said Niranjan Singh’s submission has exposed the cover-up operation that was under way at the behest of the Badals. He said the submission was significant as the ED came under the administrative control of the Union Ministry of Finance. Given that Majithia’s sister Harsimrat Kaur was a Union Minister, this development points to the collusion of the BJP in shielding the drug mafia.
