AMRITSAR – SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar urged the Afghanistan government to ensure the safety and security of Sikhs living there, while condemning the alleged abduction of a Sikh youth named Kulraj Singh by Taliban. In a press release issued here today, Makkar said it was unfortunate that Sikhs were being targeted by Taliban in Afghanistan.

He said Kulraj Singh was tortured by Taliban and released only after a ransom of Rs 5 lakh was paid. He also questioned the role of the police in Afghanistan in the entire episode. He said he had written to Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, urging her to utilise the diplomatic channels to take up the issue with the Afghan Government and ensure the safety of Sikh community living there.
