He was known as the little guy from Shawnigan but what a huge impact former PM Jean Chretien made in Canadian politics, holding on to power for more than a decade as PM and without a doubt one of the best Prime Ministers Canada has had! And it is a credit to Chretien’s personal friendship with the venerable Prem Vinning that the nearly 80-year-old would come on a campaign out west to support the campaign of decorated Sikh-Canadian Colonel Harjit Sajjan and for his party which he built to the top before Paul Martin nearly destroyed it. Chretien spoke passionately at an event to promote Sajjan at a South Vancouver event, repeating his mantra that Stephen Harper has destroyed Canada’s stellar reputation abroad and that a Prime Minister needs to be assuring and caring and not fear mongering like Harper. He said Canada is for everybody and is an inclusive country and he said Justin Trudeau is ready to return Canada to being inclusive at home and peace-maker abroad! Chretien was treated like a rock star at the event and he took time to pose for a hundred photos with his devotees, young and old! As my friend Bobby Nagra, who is a great admirer of Chretien, would say: Chretien is the real Jatt! Sajjan’s campaign got a further boost from Vancouver developers and builders who attended an event with him Sukhwant Dhillon’s Tandoori Raj restaurant.
