24 Girls Honoured For Excellence

SANGRUR – To honour girls for their excellence in various fields, a Dhuri-based NGO ‘Parivartan’ (Malwa Friends Welfare Society) chose 24 girls this year and honoured them with “Dhee Punjab Di” Award at a World Daughter’s Day function held at Dhuri today. The award comprised of a medal, a certificate, a T-shirt and a set of books.

The NGO has been working for the past several years to fight female foeticide. Those who were honoured today included Nitasha Aggarwal (Tapa) who topped Class X exam of the Punjab School Education Board in March 2015; Darsveer Kaur (Dhandra, Ludhiana) who topped Class XII examinations (Sports category) of the Punjab School Education Board in March 2015; Harasjot Kaur (Dhuri) who won gold medal in Inter-University ‘sammi’ and ‘gidha’ competitions; Kamaldeep Kaur, who got a book of poems ‘Navin Soch Navin Lehar’ published at the age of 18; Rajwinder Kaur (Patiala), gold medal in national boxing; Kenjal Kathuria (Sangrur), gold medal in swimming at state-level.
