Orange County Sheriff To Hire Sikhs With Turbans As Deputy

LOS ANGELES – In her recent visit to Santa Ana Sikh Temple Sheriff Sandra Hutchens , responding to Dr Sahota’s request , agreed to hire Sikhs with Turbans as deputy SherifF’s in her department .

The aim behind this request was , to make American public aware of Sikh Religion. This will help remove misconceptions and confusions with other religions. In addition Sheriff is willing to have Sikh children between the ages of 11 to 17 ,  with long hairs ( Jura & Gutti ) as Volunteers ( Intern ) in her office. In early 1990 ‘S a similar request was made by Dr Sahota to then Los Angeles Sheriff Lee Bacca and a Turbaned Sikh was made deputy.

The Gurdwara Secretary Avinder Singh Chawla introduced Sheriff’s husband Larry Hutchens and  her Assistant Don   Barnes .These invited guests were all honored with the Saropas. In the end Temple President Sukhi  Dhillon  thanked them.
