A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a missing shop owner by Tanveer Iqbal was found in the trunk of his own car.

LONDON – Tanveer Iqbal, who ran Hi-Tech Music shop in Smethwick, England was found in the trunk of his Renault Clio in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham yesterday afternoon.

Iqbal, who lived in Edgbaston, had been reported missing at around midday on Monday after not being seen since closing his shop on Shireland Road on Sunday evening.

Police said enquiries led officers to nearby Portland Road, where Iqbal’s body was found just before 2pm. The Clio was less than a mile away from Iqbal’s Asian music store.

Officers immediately cordoned off the area between City Road and the Ridgeway yesterday and the Renault Clio was taken away for forensic examination.

Police said Iqbal’s family is being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective Inspector Paul Joyce, who is leading the investigation, appealed for anyone who may have seen Iqbal to come forward.

He said: “We’re working around the clock to try and piece together events leading up to this man’s death.

“Portland Road is likely to remain closed until later today while my team continues to carry out an important forensic examination at the scene.

“If anyone has any information which they think may assist me with this investigation, I would urge them to get in touch as soon as they can.

“I am particularly keen to speak to any witnesses who may have seen Mr Iqbal between closing his shop in Smethwick on Sunday night and the time he was discovered at lunchtime on Monday.”
