CHANDIGARH – The Ontario province of Canada is ready to provide technical know-how and operational help to bring about a change in the farm sector Punjab.

Ontario Minister for Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade Michael Chan said, “We have been using the best agriculture practices, growing high-value crops and have world-class expertise in food processing.”

“There is tremendous scope for building a strong relationship between Ontario and Punjab in the farming sector. The other area where the Ontario Government can play a vital role is education,” he said.

“We can have a tie-up at various levels to improve the quality of education,” he said.

Chan said his province has signed business deals worth $3.7 million with Punjab and Haryana. INSOL and Toronto-based Seneca College have signed a $2.9 million deal to provide health and medical training for youth as a part of a 10-year plan for 83,000 students.

Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib, and the Oakville-based Sheridan College have signed an agreement for cooperation on academic exchanges and partnership between the two institutions.

He said that Canada could also help in the operational, management and administrative part of national highways. “Canada has the best highways in the world,” he said. Canada can help build airports and other basic infrastructure, he added.

Asked about immigration-related issues, he said Canada was the most-sought-after destination by Indians, Chinese and Filipinos.
