CHANDIGARH – EcoSikh, a Washington DC-based organisation, today appealed to gurdwaras to develop a plan to introduce organic ingredients into ‘langars’.

In a press conference, Dr Rajwant Singh, president of EcoSikh, said that EcoSikh plans to pursue organic farming as an important issue in India and the US.

The organisation also released an 80-second video on organic ‘langar’ that will be shared with gurdwaras in 25 countries via their social media campaign.

Suneet Tuli, EcoSikh board member and CEO of Datawind, appealed to all the gurdwaras to have an energy audit and take steps to reduce the emission of gases contributing to climate change.

“It is imperative that the spiritual centres of all religions commit to stopping the damage to Mother Earth for the future generations,” he said.

EcoSikh said that organic ‘langar’ was the way ahead. All gurdwaras should serve organic ‘langar’ as a part of the Sikh Environment Day celebrations on March 14. “We also appeal to gurdwaras to let farmers exhibit and sell their healthy organic food products there,” he said.

e right not to have one, and opposes discriminations on this ground. There is no ban on the wearing of turbans. French law in this matter is very precise: the restriction applies to the wearing of all visible religious signs, without any discrimination, and it applies only to public schools.

“It leaves it to the heads of public schools to take the most appropriate measures, so that it is implemented in a sensitive manner,” the statement added.

This measure has been explained to the Indian authorities and representatives of the Sikh community in France, with whom a regular dialogue has been established, the embassy said.
