The SGPC has also taken notice of the Italian police which had forced a baptised Sikh, Jaspreet Singh, to remove his “Siri Sahib” (a small strapped curved sword) when he went to get his work permit renewed recently.

AMRITSAR – The SGPC has come to turbaned Indo-Canadian Sikh comedian’s defence after he was forced to take off his turban at a US airport.

Jasmeet Singh, who is known on the internet as “JusReign”, was reportedly humiliated by security officials at San Francisco Airport recently. Earlier on February 9, Waris Ahluwalia, a Sikh-American actor, model and designer, was barred from boarding Aeromexico flight from Mexico City to New York after he refused to remove his turban during a security check.

The SGPC has also taken notice of the Italian police which had forced a baptised Sikh, Jaspreet Singh, to remove his “Siri Sahib” (a small strapped curved sword) when he went to get his work permit renewed recently.

SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar has sought the intervention of the Centre. He said the Sikh community had to struggle hard to establish their identity abroad.

He appealed to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to approach her counterparts in Italy and the US to initiate steps so that Sikhs should never fell victim of mistaken identity.
