Alzheimer’s Walk

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive degenerative disease that destroys vital brain

cells.  It causes thinking and memory to become seriously impaired and it is the most common form of dementia.

• There is no known cure.

• More than 70,000 British Columbians have Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia. 10,000 of them are under the age of 65.

Filing Income Tax Returns Free

From March 6th 2016 to May 3rd 2016.

Vedic Seniors Parivar Centre of Vedic Hindu Cultural Society Surrey informs South Asian Seniors that during the Tax filing period we can help you to file your Income Tax Returns for the year 2015 free of cost, through the community volunteer program of Canada Revenue Agency, from March 6th 2016 to May 3rd 2016. If you are living in Surrey / Delta. The eligibility Criteria are as follows 1.Single indiviual with annual income limit up to $ 30,000. 2. Couples with annual income up to $ 40,000. 3. Adult with one child annual income up to $ 35,000, add the income limit by $ 2,500 for each dependent child. Interest income not over $ 1,000.00 and this income will be included as total eligibility. With no investment income, no rental income , no business or partnership income and no capital gain or loss. Sin# card and photo identity will be required to prove the documents. Free and confidential services are offered to help newcomers – with all their needs – during the process of settling into their new community. Settlement and Integration Services are free for immigrants, refugees and their families in BC. Valid Permanent Resident (PR) card should be presented at the time of service.. Canadian Citizens and Temporary Foreign Workers will be referred to Options Settlement Service office. Funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Public Forum

The Institute for the Humanities at Simon Fraser University and South Asian Network for Secularism and Democracy (SANSAD), with the support of several others, are organizing a public forum on the recent attacks on dissent and critical voices in Indian universities, focusing on the recent arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar, the president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union. Income Tax Clinic 2016

Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society (Vancouver) is offering Free Income Tax filing services for people living in Vancouver, Richmond, New Westminster and Burnaby. The eligibility criteria is as follows:

Single individual with annual limit upto $30,000

Couples with annual income limit upto $40,000

Adult with one child with annual income limit upto $35,000 and increase the     income limit by $2500 for each dependant child

Income from interest(s) should not exceed $1,000

Anyone fulfilling the aforesaid criteria can visit or contact the PICS Vancouver Settlement Office.  Appointments are necessary.

PICS’ new Project Based Language Training Program (PBLT) is now offering free English classes for the Labour Market. It helps immigrants overcome language barriers that hinder new immigrants’ path to employment. The priority for this project is to attach clients to Labour Market and help them actively seek employment or prepare them to enroll in a training course or move to an enhanced Labour market program. Students will learn and develop soft skills, job search, resume writing, interview skills, networking and much more.
