PATIALA – Budha Dal Public School authorities here allegedly detained some students in the library for over two hours as their parents had not paid capitation fee for 2015-16.
Around 40 students were allegedly asked to move to the library after the morning assembly. They were made to sit there “unattended” on the pretext that their fee had not been paid in full. It was only after the parents barged into the library that the students could move out.
Two girls, Bhumi and Mehalpreet Kaur, were allegedly taken ill during the “detention” and had to be rushed to Government Rajindra Hospital. They were later discharged. A boy had also fainted and the police have started investigating the case.
The Budha Dal Parents Association had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court against re-admission charges and massive fee hike after which the court ordered an interim stay. It directed the aggrieved parents to deposit only the tuition fee with late fee charges.
The school authorities withheld results of some students as their parents had not paid the capitation fee. The parents approached the court again yesterday and asked the school management to declare the result.
When the students reached the school this morning, they were not allowed to attend classes and were instead asked to sit in the library. Their parents had also gathered outside the schools waiting for the result. As the students were made to sit in the library for over two hours, the parents forcibly entered the school around 10.30 am and took their kids away.
Principal Amrit Aujla trashed the allegations saying the students were made to sit comfortably in the air-conditioned library. “The parents claimed the HC had ordered to declare the result of such students and allow them admission to the next class till further orders. As we had not received any such orders, they were asked to produce a copy of the same.”
Patiala DC Ramvir Singh said he had sought footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the school library and if the authorities were found guilty, strict action would be initiated against them.
Later in the evening, the Principal declared the result of the students and allowed them admission to next class. The next date of hearing in the case is April 25.
